Emily McGhee gives direction on the construction of her Lemonade Stand.

CSB helps 8-year-old raise more than $2,400 at WHO’s Lemonade Stand!

July 24 was a big day for 8-year-old Emily McGhee. Not only was it her birthday, but she was up before the sun to work her  Lemonade Stand at Valley West Mall - live on WHO's Van & Bonnie morning show. Her early-bird efforts paid off. Thanks to generous listeners and CSB, Emily raised more than $2,400!

WHO's annual Lemonade Stand promotion gives one lucky student a chance to earn money for college. Anderson Erickson provides free Icy Cold To Go Lemonade, and for the third consecutive year, Community State Bank matches up to $1500.00.

Together we helped make another youngster’s college dreams come true!

Kids were entertained at a variety of activity stations, including bubbles, sidewalk chalk, temporary tattoos, a bean bag throw, duck pond, fish bowl toss, bag 'o candy walk and imagination coloring station.

Across the street, Walgreens offered free blood pressure and glucose screenings.

Three Winners awarded $1,750 in United Way Golf Ball Drop

The United Way Ankeny Action Council awarded $1,750 to three winners in its second annual Golf Ball Drop. The event, sponsored by Community State Bank, was held during Ankeny SummerFest and raised more than $8,000.

For $10 each, United Way volunteers sold nearly 850 raffle tickets with corresponding golf ball numbers. On the last night of SummerFest, the balls were dropped from a giant fire truck aerial ladder; those closest to the target hole won.

Congratulations to first Place winner Bud Lawson, who received $1,000 for having the luckiest golf ball. Second place and $500 was awarded to Mike St. Clair. Gerry Almburg received third place and donated his $250 prize back to United Way.

Pictured in the awards photo above are (L-R):  Judy Hines, United Way of Central Iowa, Regional Director, Ankeny; Mark Degner, President, Community State Bank, Golf Ball Drop Sponsor; Mel Weatherwax, United Way Ankeny Action Council; Mike St. Clair, second place winner of $500; Bud Lawson, first place winner of $1000; Gerry Almburg, third place winner of $250; Shawn Green, United Way of Central Iowa, Senior Vice President, Resource Development.

SummerFest Block Party - THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who attended our 2008 SummerFest Block Party and helped make it our best yet! We served hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, ice cream bars and water to more than 1,800 guests during the three-hour bash. Adults enjoyed live music, while kids dived into the inflatables, face painting and sidewalk chalk art - the spin art frisbees were a HUGE hit! Thanks to our partners Fareway and Walgreens for helping make this event a success. See you next year!

CSB sponors Van & Bonnie Lemonade Stand on WHO Radio

On Friday, July 11, six-year-old Jeremy Romitti had his most profitable lemonade stand EVER - thanks to sponsor Community State Bank, hosts WHO Radio and Toyota of Des Moines, and lemonade donor Anderson Erickson Dairy.

A thirsty crowd gathered from 5 to 9 a.m. at Toyota of Des Moines to support Jeremy's Lemonade Stand, buying ice-cold AE lemonade donated by Anderson Erickson Dairy.

No doubt the on-air promotion helped. Jeremy and his family were joined by WHO Radio personalities Van & Bonnie, who broadcast the stand to their listening audience.

Proceeds will go toward Jeremy's college fund; CSB committed $1,500 in matching funds. Total proceeds tallied $3,045.10.
